Parent Reps
What is a Parent Representative?
A Parent Representative (Parent Rep), plays an important part in helping create a positive, supportive football environment for all players and families.
You are the link between the club or team staff and the other parents and carers. Your job is to help communication flow smoothly, encourage respect and inclusion, and make sure everyone feels informed and involved.
You’re not a coach or manager – your focus is on people, not performance.
Why the role matters
Parents and carers are central to making sure children enjoy football in a safe, fun and respectful setting.
Parent reps help:
- Keep parents informed and connected.
- Promote positive behaviour and support the club’s values.
- Strengthen the sense of community between families, coaches and the club.
- Support a culture where children feel safe, included and able to enjoy their football experience.
The role of a parent rep
- Communicate clearly: Share key messages from the coaches or club with parents and pass on any general feedback or questions from parents to the team staff.
- Encourage respect and good behaviour: Help remind parents of the club’s and the FA’s expectations around conduct and fair play.
- Support safeguarding: Be aware of what safe and positive practice looks like and know who to speak to if a parent or player raises a concern.
- Build team spirit: Welcome new families, help everyone feel included, and encourage parents to get involved with team activities and events.
- Be approachable: Act as a friendly, open point of contact for other parents – someone they can go to for general information or support.
What your role isn't
-
You are not responsible for coaching decisions or team selection.
-
You are not there to handle individual complaints or disciplinary issues – these should go through the club’s welfare officer or committee.
-
You are not solely responsible for safeguarding, but you do play an important part in supporting a safe culture for everyone
Your role is to help parents feel connected, supported and respected — and to make sure every child can enjoy football in a safe, positive environment.
