A bit about us
We put female football first.
For far too long, women’s and girls’ football has been overshadowed by the men’s game. We want to change that in our community.
Stour Wanderers FC was founded in May 2025 by Liz, Andy, Jade, and Aimee. Established as a girls’ football club our mission is to create a safe, inclusive space where local girls can thrive and enjoy playing football.
Competing in the FA Suffolk Girls and Women Football League, Stour Wanderers FC is a girls’ football club based in the Stour Valley on the Suffolk-Essex border. Our players mainly come from nearby towns and villages in Suffolk and North Essex.
We believe grassroots sport, such as football, is about more than just the game. It provides a platform for local girls to forge friendships, boost self-confidence, cultivate healthy physical and mental habits, navigate their emotions, and ultimately grow into strong, happy, and confident young women.
We believe that we can no longer raise young girls in an environment where it’s acceptable for their football to come second to their male counterparts.
By working alongside organisations, like Suffolk FA, and celebrating achievements of female football players and teams, we can send a clear message to local girls – you and your football matter.
Our goal is to build a Club that players and their families feel proud to belong to. As we grow, we aim to provide even more local girls with the opportunity to play and enjoy football, from childhood through their teenage years and beyond.
Our ultimate goal is to establish a dedicated home ground complete with a modern clubhouse facility. We believe our players deserve nothing less, and we remain committed to turning this vision into reality.
