Summer 2025 saw us embark on a challenge to raise £2025 in 2025. Running a grassroots football club is costly – and starting one from scratch is even more of a challenge. At Stour Wanderers FC, we’re determined to keep football as inclusive and accessible as possible. That means keeping signing-on fees low, so we’re not adding to the financial pressure families are already under.

To make that happen, we’re applying for grants and funding wherever we can. But we’re also working hard to fundraise directly, so every girl at our club gets the football experience she deserves – with proper kit, equipment, and opportunities to grow and thrive on and off the pitch.

Inspired by the Lionesses returning home as Euro 2025 champions (again!), we launched our £2025 in 2025 challenge. We asked local businesses to sponsor us £25 in return for a ‘shout out’ on our website and a link to their website. And we set our players the challenge to raise £25 in the most creative ways they could think of.

And the community and the girls really got behind the club and delivered!

Players' Challenge

Throughout their school summer holiday our players went above and beyond to raise money for their club and team mates. Here are just some of the incredible things our players did:

  • Martha from our U13s team raised money by doing lots of chores for friends and family including weeding, cleaning and dog walking.
  • Lexi from our U9s team raised money by swimming an incredible 64 lengths.
  • Prim from our U11s team did a sponsored silence for 25 hours (those who know our U11s know how hard this would have been!)
  • Jessica from our U13s team ran an amazing 25km with her dad.
  • Molly from our U11s team baked some delicious Stour Wanderers cup cakes and sold them to friends and family.
  • Imogen from our U13s team ran a speedy 25 laps of a five-a-side football pitch.
  • Millie also from our U13s combined her two favourite sports – football and gymnastics – and completed 25 push-ups before somersaulting around a five-a-side pitch.
  • Imogen from our U11s practised her keepy-uppies for 25 days and volleyed 25 water-balloons.
  • One of our Wolf Cubs demonstrated 25 different football skills in 25 different outfits.
  • Grace from our U13s set herself a challenge to visit as many different football stadiums as possible where they host professional women’s football.
  • Bobbi from our U13s set herself the challenge of walking 25 minutes on the treadmill for 25 days.
  • Lily from our U11s team while on holiday practised her karate moves and at 25 different locations.

And we had lots of parents, family and friends generously donate to our challenge too. Well done girls and thank you so much for your hard work and dedication.

Local Business Support

As with the hard work, support and generosity of our players and their families and friends, we were blown away by the support we have been shown by the local business community.

We know what great young people our players are – and their parents, family and friends knows that too. But for other local people to recognise what we’re hoping to achieve and choose to support us on our journey by donating to our cause really meant a lot. We can’t thank you enough.
